Remembering 1916
A series of history, poetry and heritage talks will take place in the #Ballybane and #Westside communities throughout 2016, titled – Remembering 1916 – as part of Galway City Council’s programme of events to mark 1916.
Well- known #Galway
historian, William Henry, will start proceedings by giving a talk next
Wednesday 13th of January in Ballybane Library from 11.00-12.30 and in
Westside Library from 6.30-8.00 pm, on Galway
& the Rising. William Henry is due to publish his book about the
events surrounding 1916 in March, so this is an excellent chance for
members of the public to hear him speak on this topic.
The
programme of events in Ballybane and Westside will be available on the
day. The events are free and all are welcome to attend. Other speakers
who will speak later in the year include Dr Micheline Sheehy
Skeffington, giving a talk on her grandmother Hannah Sheehy Skeffington
and the suffragette movement and Dr Catriona Clear who will give a talk
on the lives of women at this time.
This lecture series is compiled
and facilitated by the staff at Ballybane & Westside Libraries,
Ballybane & Westside Resource Centres and Galway City Partnership.
Please contact Ballybane Library on 091-380590 or Westside Library on
091-520616 for further information on Remembering 1916 lecture series.
